When I read this my first reaction was why not respond with a picture of Mecca under a mushroom cloud.

Yeah I don’t do subtle.

I'd say Riyadh as that's the capital. Mecca is not the head of the snake. Mecca should be an independent city state like it was for a while so that the Saudis may not use it for political purposes.

Mecca belongs to Muslims; not the Sauds. They have no right controlling it and take it for their own. Mecca should be like the Vatican city, with Sunnies, Shiites and all other branches of Muslims having the right to it.

But the Saudi crown invaded it.

Riyadh is the source of the venom, not Mecca.

That's exactly what I've been thinking! Like has been said, Mecca shouldn't be a tool. It should be fiercely neutral and independent like Switzerland. The Vatican, whilst a good model to base Mecca on, have had their face share of controveries about their ability to influence. Switzerland is what Mecca should aspire to be.

I know the Swiss Confederation isn't perfect but it's probably a better model than the Vatican. Remember, the Vatican is a monarchy with a lot of power. Swizatland has a form of direct democracy and they have the tools to be self sufficient and survive and a nuclear attack by some account. People like the Swiss because they don't get involved in geo-politics.

It's too early though; 100 years span did not even complete full circle, I'm sure that the new world war will come visit.

Certainly there are segments of the community that want to see the death and destruction that the 'end times" will bring. Others are rated indifferent to the prospect. Not saying you insinuated as such. but I don't know that I'd count Atlas amoungst the shouty rabble rowers though.

During the crisis of Qatar and KSA, Saudi Arabia used Mecca against the Qataries preventing them from the Haj; and they did so earlier with Iran. Despite the model being agreed on; it must be one without any kind of contact with geo-politics.

You personally? I don't blame you for having such thoughts: If I lived in Saudi with M.S. I think I'd be a lot more upset at the world. Yeah, maybe it's an excuse. I actually enjoy having you around, and your perspective on things. Speaking of Saudi Qatar relations, did anyone catch this doozy?

Saudi Arabia wants to build a moat around Qatar

I couldn't believe at first.

Saudi state-linked news outlets reported this week that digging the so-called Salwa Marine Canal project would cost $750 million and aims to generate economic activity and tourism in the area. Other reports, from Saudi’s Al-Riyadh newspaper, suggest the kingdom would construct a military base on one part of the border, while the other portion would be used as a dumping ground for nuclear waste. The project is still awaiting official approval, according to the reports.

I'm not sure how dumping nuclear waste around Qatar would increase tourism. Are these guys from the same species as me? Saudi goverment officials are hilarious!

I'm reminded of that time they had that ex-Saudi official on al-Jazeera for an interview VS that Iranian diplomat. Saudi guy got called out on actions in Yemen and he says "Saudi Arabia supports peace and freedom in the Middle East."
