Damn. I loved her. I hardly ever tear up for someone I don't personally know dying...it happens to everyone. But damn.

We have a good friend of about 70 just flunked out of a trial of a new treatment for pancreatic cancer. He is now on hospice care at home. We see his wife all the time but him less frequently. We're having them over for dinner a week from Saturday. It feels awkward but important to connect too. Maybe a little survivor's guilt.
If anyone deserves a knee in pro sports today and through the weekend Aretha does. She was more than just music. She succeeded at the start of her fame at time when others feared black success.
