Granny died.

Granny died.
Born in 1910. Toughest old bird on the planet. Also very private. Lived "alone" proudly until the end.* I bought her usual load of cat food yesterday, (my contribution to her maintenance) then sat at home and looked at it for a while. Cats were spoken for years ago, but the current cat servants can buy their own cat food. It will be a couple of months before I have to buy Fancy Feast again. Somewhere in Ireland people are sad without knowing why.

No point to this, just mental clearance.

*Her little house was on a cousin's property with a covered walkway between the houses.

Sorry for your loss.  My own great-granny died prematurely at 104.

Struck down in their prime. She used to say she could still do handstands, if somebody operated the crane for her.

Bessie Shannon really did die prematurely - she got run over while crossing the road on her way to market.  Lived on her own, did her own cooking and housework, etc.  My da (her youngest) liked to say, 'There's no telling how long that mean auld bitch would have gone on if left to herself.'

One of my cousins is working on a collection of songs she used to sing, many taught to her by the 1st gen., songs they learned in Ireland in the 1800s. She also used to sing incredibly obscene songs she learned while working as a munitions worker in WWII.

One of the most haunting conversations I had, was with my late mother's roommate in the long term care nursing home. Her roommate was a survivor of Poland in WW2. It wasn't a long conversation, nor was she offended by me asking, but I could tell by the look on her face alone, that she had seen things no sane person would want to see. To have the courage to survive such was amazing to see. I do remember her one quote, "They treated us like animals."

But she did express her thanks for the allies and the outcome. And just based on her children coming to visit her, I could see that she not only survived, but lived a very good life since.

I love old people just knowing that they were around to see history that I was not around to see. And I love the stories of courage too.

I can only guess the stories your Granny has passed down to you. You certainly are lucky to have had her in your life.

Sorry to see this. It happens to all of us, but there's never a good time for it.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

Sorry for your loss Sad

One of my cousins died 2 days ago. He was only 36. AIDS got him.

Loss is never easy.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
