Seems interesting
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Well there it is. It's been said many times here (and elsewhere) that the religion of the child comes from the religion of the parent. Now, go to your religious building of choice for many years and listen to lies that have been said so many times that they are taken as "gospel". Lie enough times and the people give up on trying to sort it out. This is the crux of why a religious person has to reason their own way out of religion, and no amount of truth and/or explanation is going to move them off that position. It also helps the religion that it has a social infrastructure, but that had to develop over the centuries.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
