The abdication of Napoleon as the emperor of France was not by the French people, but a mutiny be the marshalls he appointed himself.

I would think long and hard about using the French revolution as a template. If you look a bit harder in history i am sure you will find much better examples.
Leo, I don't know what your point is. I claim the French Revolution was necesary and laudable. Napoleon was a counter-revolutionary.
Where are you going with this, would you decry the bolshevik revolution in Russia?

My point is, do not ever try to pass off the French revolution as a good example. It was a barbaric black page in the history of France that put a reign of terror in charge that put the Taliban to shame.

I decree no revolution at all. If you want to get rid of your monarchy, do it through a democratic process. If the majority of the UK wants to get rid of the monarchy, they can. So can the Dutch, so can the Belgians.

I maintain that the French Revolution was exemplary.
We may be rid of the House of Windsor (or to give the family its original name Hanover-Saxe-Coburg-Gotha......the name was cynically changed in 1917 as the carnage on the western front made life a bit difficult for German emigres ) eventually....a revolution would be quicker though! But we're English lol.
Not to be outdone by his son, today we learn that Prince Charles, heir to the throne, refers to one of his polo-playing chums, who happens to be non-caucasian ( I don't know how best to describe him ) as " sooty ".
This upper-class twit is defending Charlie by saying it's a term of endearment, that's all.
It really annoys me when I hear ethnic people, I suspect because they don't want to upset the boss, excusing blatant racism by saying no harm was meant!

Well call me cynical but I think the idea of a revolution is that the parties involved don't massacre each other.

I wouldn't dream of calling you cynical. You just don't like revolutions!
