Why can't atheists be "about" something? Judiasm is about something, catholism is about something..., why can't aethism be about something?

There is no reason to only be about the faction of "no."

Why can't we be about something? Well of course we all could be, but only by coincidence and not due to our Atheism. Any other ideologies, ideas or goals we share are purely coincidental and are surplus to being Atheist. It would be impossible to unite under "the banner" of Atheism for anything else other than sharing a stand point when it comes to a belief in a god... because that's all it is.

Yes,but we're talking about religion. I'm also underwhelmed by Hitchens' polemics, which can be quite shrill. I've seen no evidence that the world would be noticeably better without religion..Human beings as species would remain unchanged; self interested, greedy and stupid. There are worse things than than religion.Eg totalitarianism, with its personality cults to replace religion.

All they would lose is a quickly replaced excuse.

All wars are fought for one or both of two and only two reasons:To take something someone else has,and/or to stop them taking something you have. Wars are never simply about religion.

Of course the poor dumb bastards who do the actual fighting are conned into fighting for all kinds of non-reasons, such as religious differences and patriotism.
