RE: Refugee thread!
Well, sorry. I still had fun necroing the thread, though.

Here is the thread link: https://atheistforums.org/thread-27792.h...ght=accent

Follow the instructions in post #1 in the hide tag. Don't worry about the 30 day warning rule.

You'll hear some of the oldsters ya been typing at.

I went there, but it warned me: The last post in this thread was made over 30 days ago. Please consider starting a new thread.

Make a recording (if you can, I don't have the tech ability) and post it there. Ignore the warning, it's only a "consideration" to cut down on necro postings/threads. Listen to the other recordings. I'd start at page 85 and work backwards.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

I GOT it, I'm just not sure I want to burst anyone's (hopefully positive) mental image of me by subjecting you to my hick-drawl. If I decide I will, then I'll post a video of me singing while playing the ukulele. You'll REALLY hate me then!
Where are we going and why am I in this hand basket?

Smile

Wow, I never realised!

I am no stranger to nudity.

The most natural feeling in the world for me is to run over wild mountaintops naked.

Yeah, with the ballet dancer I was just thinking how  extraordinary she was and wasn't thinking about her nudity because it was art.  She's dancing naked on a Christian cross. If you want to see it , it's the Massenet  Meditation, da Thais and the  prima ballerina is Letizia Giuliani.  It's still on youtube.   The music and ballet are  based on a  weird  religious story which is why  I was posting it on TTA.

Of course all that pales by comparison to how much my value as a human being (in the bible-belt) dropped in the minds of the people in Tinytown upon revealing my atheism.

My husband is from South Carolina.  He was raised in Columbia SC and his family still lives there.  He's an actor so he had to lose his accent.  It helped that  he went to  University of Southern California and came out talking like a Californian. But when he travels back to see his family and if he's there for more than a week he comes back with a full-on South Carolina accent.

Hey, I've lived near Columbia, SC for 15 years now. Moving to Ohio for work in a few months though. I always liked to believe I wasn't adopting an SC accent but sometimes I hear it in my voice, especially when I'm tired/lazy and slurring words. And I pretty much never say the g on -ing words. And say y'all a lot.

Didn't someone just post a youtube link to a Tiny Tim video of him "singing" "Tiptoe Through the Tulips"? Razz

I lived in the Columbia area for nearly 20 years...didn't pick up much of that accent and lost most of it pretty quickly when I moved.  Might be because I hated SC so much and was so happy to see it in my rear view mirror.

My husband and I met in the Los Angeles.  When we were engaged the subject of moving back to South Carolina  after we were married came up a few times  but I argued that we met in LA and he was also living in LA at the time, therefore,  since he met me on my home turf it wasn't fair to take me away from my home.  If I'd met him in South Carolina that would be different.  Well,  somehow I convinced him that this was logical.   But the REAL reason was that I just couldn't live in  South Carolina. It was too religious and way too conservative.  I could visit, I could maybe spend a couple of weeks there but  damned if I would ever live there. I would be totally miserable and unhappy living in the South.    I'm a West Coast gal.  The West Coast is the Best Coast!

Doesn't that hurt your feet?

Can do. Depends on the ground. Sometimes the rocks around mountain summits are particularly sharp, but only right at the summit..

SC looks excellent in a rear view mirror. And "South Carolina State Line 10 Miles Ahead" may as well be a U-Turn sign to me.
