If there is an afterlife...

My theory on why people think this is because it is physically (and I guess mentally) impossible to think/imagine what it would be like to not exist. We can visualize what it was not to exist before we existed, but now that we do exist, it is impossible to think what not existing is like after we go.

It's like trying to think about not thinking. It just doesn't work. Common sense tells us that an afterlife is possible, which is why common sense is often very very wrong.

The universe is an information processing system to about the same extent as a pile of rocks in a washing machine is Rayaan...

And i fucking hate this bastardised definition and use of information. The only 'information' is the way the elementary particles and force carriers are positioned relative to each other. Again that is 'information' in the same way the distance and angle between my washing-machine rocks are at any given moment. We could even find a way to control the direction a predesignated face of the rock is pointing and do computations with it.

...and yet you rated up his post. When I saw that I was going to comment that you have obviously been smoking more pot than usual, but now I see that it was a send up related to "opposite day". Big ups for ironic kudosing! I've often wished for a thumbs down button but figured that involking opposite day then rating up the dumbest posts would be funnier...

Yes there is actually a wiki page on opposite day. Who knew?

Because it was an interesting and well though out response despite my disagreement. It's like I can't appreciate failed effort or something... Seriously, it was an improvement from his usual shit, am I wrong to approve of that? Tongue

To me kudos = agreement, but that could be limiting. It is a thumbs up though, so think about if you were standing there listening to him say that.... would you be like, right on man! well said! while showing obvious approval by pointing your thumb skywards? Ok, maybe ironically, and then you would give a scathing retort... as you already did! Smile I guess I just wanted to post something. I wonder how much trouble it would be to get Adrian to involke opposite day and make all thumbs up count negatively toward kudos?

I still wish for the thumbs down button. Why can't we not express un-displeasure when not pleased!?

better to state your reasons for displeasure - then the poster knows if it's because it's an invalid argument, poor communication, or your own bad temper. Tongue

Wouldn't that argument be equally valid for being pleased? I know that if I visited pleasure upon someone I would be equally curious why the pleasure found its mark. Tongue

lol point taken, though I'm still convinced we can save Rayaan from brainwashing... Him quoting Seth Lloyd isn't a bad start.

Anyway, his post wasn't wrong, it was just more arbitrary than he would like..

And un-displeasure is kudos Big Grin

Oh sure. I'm just stating an opinion though - I'd more definitely rather hear why someone has a problem with me than their exact reasons for being pleased.
