RE: Ten Facts...
1. I've managed to live half a century in places that have never felt like home to me. I'm not sure why or what is missing.
2. My wife and I are temperamentally very different cats -- so much so that our being together is something of a mystery to those who know us.
3. I have two dogs: Honey and Abigail.
4. I have five grandchildren, two girls and three boys.
5. My youngest grandchild is monstrously large for his age. He's too young for us to tell if he's going to be an offensive tackle or a doofy Baby Huey type when he's a teen.
6. I was insanely phobic about birds when I was a kid. I'm a bit better now. A bit.
7. My features are a near-perfect mix of my mother's and my father's.
8. How my parents got together long enough to breed is one of life's enduring mysteries.
9. My enthusiasms tend to be extreme, short-lived, and serial in nature.
10. New acquaintances almost always misread me. I'm actually sweet in real life but don't come off that way because I seldom smile and have a pretty dark sense of humor. I'm a bit of an acquired taste.

Holy fuck I didn't know that. I didn't mean to sound insensitive. I'm wearing a poppy badge on my jacket this year as usual.

Yeah, a WTF moment for many Ozzies. I'm a WWII historian, otherwise I'd probably have never heard of it either.

RE: Ten Facts...
1- I don't care for Texas Holdem' but I kick ass at HiLo Omaha.

2- I've always walked in nature and am capable of Muir-like ecstasy in certain places, no drugs required.

3- Gardening is in my blood now but I used to turn my nose up at manmade gardens until I visited this place: https://www.harlandhandgarden.com

4- My dogs are my constant companions and two of my favorite beings.

5- When I was younger I only read fiction under duress.  Now I'm vacuuming up all the great novels I can get to.

6- I achieved long time marital happiness on only my second try.  I like having a constant human companion the way I like the company of my dogs.  Both are needed for me to feel complete.  If Lia passes before me I won't bury her in the garden like the dogs but I will replace her and she knows I expect her to do the same in my absence.

7- Regular solitude is something else I figured out that I needed regularly to be happy.  But I find it hard to appreciate solitude accept against the background of a steady, committed relationship.

8- Sometime in high school I read something that talked about the noise in our heads and our habit of narrating our experience.  As a result I've always avoided the narration.  Language is for communicating with others.  The essence of being human is being the space where ideas and thoughts can gather and be recognized.

9- I am happy in my childlessness.  I fulfilled my childrearing responsibilities at the office when I taught.  Kids can be cute but I don't really want them pooping and shedding all over the house.

10- I'm far more interested in why god belief has been so important for so many for so long than I am in either religion or atheism.  Every religion is flawed and atheism isn't anything at all, but the influence of religious experience in shaping what we have become I find fascinating.  I've got no beef with any believer who accepts their share of agnosticism and admits that whatever it is they believe is a mystery about which all they have is hunches.

RE: Ten Facts...
Omg I love this thread and I want numerous people to expand on some of their points but I will get mine out of the way first. Then I will start harassing y'all.

0. I'm long winded, I apologize.

1. I'm an army brat through and through. You can mock the US and you can say our troops need to withdraw from most places (and I will agree on some) but the moment you start in on our soldiers I will freak. the. fuck. out.
2. I have a resting bitch face and my daughter got hers from me.
3. I'm all about the environment and try to do as much as I can for it but I'm not giving up my truck, Big Hoss. Not happening.
4. I've published a book and maybe one day I can stop being lazy and publish its sequel.
5. I have OCD that is triggered by my stress levels. People assume this means I am a germaphobe but honestly I'm the opposite. My motto is a little dirt never hurt. My obsessions are with colors/letters/numbers/patterns/routines. I need things organized and put away not dusted and scrubbed.
6. My mother is an enabler to hoarding and it causes me anxiety to be in her house for too long. Literally every time I visit I organize something. She is getting better about it and is helping me more. My chest literally hurts when I get overwhelmed about how much stuff she has and I can't clean it or throw everything away.
7. My favorite shows are Bob's Burgers and MASH. I watch them literally daily because I have to sleep with the TV on. I can't do quiet, my thoughts get too loud.
8. My world, after family of course, is gaming. My husband and I bonded over games and at one point we had two TV's in our living room so we could both play at the same time. Sadly having a kiddo made us cut back so now we take turns. One watches the baby on the floor, the other plays their game on the couch. We have to have 2 PS3's and I realllly want a second PS4 so I wouldn't have to do without on days he takes it to work.
9. My husband is a paramedic that works 48 hours straight and it works really well for our relationship and I couldn't be more proud of his chosen profession.
10. I watched both of my younger sisters get their bachelors at Texas A&M and felt like a failure but I now run my own branch of the bank I work for, I have a loving husband, a beautiful child, and a loyal hound. Nothing about my life is a failure and not having a college degree isn't how I should judge myself I've learned.
“What screws us up the most in life is the picture in our head of what it's supposed to be.”

Also if your signature makes my scrolling mess up "you're tacky and I hate you."
