Back in the day I used to drag race (street- that was stupid) and road race (mountains- that was even stupider). I have dead friends to prove how stupid those activities are. Raging hormones, what can I say? I'll be pulling the engine out of my '70 Chevy truck soon to overhaul it. Still waiting for my hands to heal enough from surgeries done last year.

*I don't bother to overhaul automatic transmissions or air conditioning compressors- they take too many one-use specialty tools.

My first vehicle was  1970 C-10. 350 4 bbl quadrajunk and a 400 tranny.

Put a cap on back - with a bed and carpeting....

My automotive repair skills pretty much amount to turning the key on-off-on-off-on-off while saying in an increasingly loud voice, 'START, YOU VICIOUS BASTAAAARD!!!' and then calling for a tow.

Writing the cheque to the garage takes up less of my time.

RE: Wrenching
I used to do quite a bit, but that was on vehicles all pre 1970. Once all the antipollution stuff came around, I caved. So, not much in the last 40 years and practically non existent now.

I will always do maintenance on my own. But I have a leased vehicle now, can't do as much. Pretty much just change the erl now.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Shaggin' Wagon FTW. My current truck is inherited from my FiL after he dies. My MiL could never drive the thing, so it went to my wife. We put a shell on it a year ago February after the original one rotted to pieces. No furniture in it yet, just piled up stuff for camping- what doesn't fit in the travel trailer.

You laugh, but have you seen those videos from Japan where the guys have these huge plywood extensions? Not far off of what you posted.
