I go to...some lengths to avoid running heaters, for financial and ethical reasons, indoor or nay...I ain't no saint, frequently primarily financial reasons.

I wear leggings under my jeans when outside, and flannel jammies with a heavy robe, double socks or heavy soled slippers inside. Not thermals but same deal.

We actually had no heat for a few weeks last winter due to water damage in the apartment, so we even slept in multiple layers because it was so cold inside the apartment. We had to wear our heavy winter coats indoors. It was miserable. Coldest part of the year, too. If memory serves, it got to 16 below! I appreciate even moderate heating sooo much more, now. We close off most rooms in the house and only heat the kitchen/dining where we spend most of our time.
