Is this trolling on my part?

Is this trolling on my part?
So theres a particular poster here who keeps bringing up my name in posts to say nasty or untrue things about me. This person and I aren't having a discussion or anything, he makes these posts about me to other people, and just brings up my name even when the discussion he is responding to isn't even about me.

Is it trolling for me to repost to his nasty posts about me with a short response like "love ya babe!" or "lol"
or something of the sort?

Part of me is like, well he brought my name into this and said something nasty, so my sarcastic and short response is warranted. But then I wonder if my response to him could he perceived as me egging him on, since I'm not really trying to talk or anything.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

If there was a problem you’d know about it. My advice is to go about your daily routines and let us do the moderating.

Thanks.

Unless what this really is is an effort to report him as trolling you? There’s a report function.

CL isn’t attempting to moderate, she’s simply checking to make sure her future behaviour doesn’t rise to the level of a rules violation. No need to get snippy with her about it.

No, I know he isn't trolling me. Just curious if what I was doing was trolling him lol.

Not according to the Rules, it isn’t.

Quote:
  • Trolling
Trolling is not allowed. We consider trolling to be repeatedly doing any of the following:
    • Making provocative posts.
    • Making posts that are unrelated / irrelevant to the thread or conversation subject.
    • Disrupting normal discussion.
  • In addition to the above, we consider it to be trolling if your signature is judged to be provocative towards a member, whether they are mentioned or not. This includes insulting them, quoting them out of context, or referring to them in a negative manner.

As discussions that involve controversial or taboo subjects often tend to get heated for those involved, not all provocative posts will get classed as trolling. However, if a member is found to be making such posts more often than not within their most recent posts, they will be in violation of this rule.

RE: Is this trolling on my part?
I've had that happen, and I don't like it either. I figure each thread should be considered a new space, until someone chooses to enter it and engage in a debate.

Recently, someone called me by the name of another member here, apparently in a derogatory way. Presumably, this other member is looked down on and considered an outsider, and the idea was that the one insulting me was trying to put me in the same box. That's pretty shitty on two levels, in my opinion.

And it's not like the other person was deep in the debate, and we were joined together in agreement over some point. So far as I can tell, it was purely meant to dig up that person's name and shit on it while also showing what was thought of me.

Overall, I have to say that a lot of humanity is lost in the name of liberty around here. Personally, I don't think calling each other pieces of shit and so on should be tolerated. I've noticed that non-atheists in particular are often openly abused-- I mean, things that may not even be considered legal if said out in the open-- and that's not okay.
