I think that reflects the very real reality that drama is largely character driven, so when you've constructed a set of well-liked characters and people have already invested in them, it's hard to throw away that investment and try to build anew from the ground up. It's a human thing.

And a sunken cost fallacy, but we are just humans and none of us are perfect.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

Seriously! Why don't they make movies that don't have cars exploding?

I understand that people getting together makes a great story, but I'm also sure there are plenty of interesting things that can happen to people who are already together, if the writer thinks hard enough. Retreading old ground just makes me think the two aren't made for each other after all.

For me it could be very early on. If the movie title had "Saw" or "Transformers" in it, I'd be out of there quickly.

However, if the title wasn't a tip-off, and I waited through the intro material, excessive gratuitous violence or sadistic suffering would be enough to make me seek the exit.

If I didn't know the movie I'd probably not be there to begin with.

A theater full of ankle bitters is a good sign that I shouldn't be there. Or all/mostly women, no offense women.

If I'm not hooked in the first 20 minutes I'm either leaving or sleeping.

Regardless of what we may think of writers, it remains true that a bird in the hand is more valuable than two in the bush.
