USN ships have EXIT arrows. If the passageway fills with smoke you're supposed to crawl on the floor and follow the arrows to the exit. The EXIT arrows are on the bulkheads, six feet above the deck.

In all machine shops I worked in - fire extinguishers had a placard mounted on the wall that says " fire extinguisher ".

The plackard is about 10 inch high - the extinguisher a couple feet.

You see the redundancy???

OSHA fines the company if you don't have the placard.

So apparently, they feel the employees are dumb enough to not be able to find the fire extinguisher without written instructions.

For those of you who don't know, I run an internet archive for WWII-related material. We currently have >20 terabytes of files online.

A few years ago a person who claimed to be a professor at a Canadian university set me an email:

Print out Hyperwar and mail it to me.

No please, no offer to pay for postage or my time, leave alone the paper and ink.

I replied. Haven't heard back from him.
