Trump can always blame it on *drum roll* Democrats. You forget that in eyes of Trumpanzees Trump can do no wrong no matter what he does and he can't tell no falsehoods no matter how big and farfetched lies he says. These are the times we live in so get used to it. For one group of them Trump is the second coming of Jesus and for the other group Trump is someone for whom Jesus would vote for.

Meh. Lately some cracks have been showing in their wall of denial. I don't consider the Trumpeteers to be all that much different than some other people who will tie themselves in knots defending absolute nonsense.

Whoops! Trump has lost his DACA card that he wanted to play in the shutdown negotiations.

It isn't stamped in stone that Trump will be the Republican nominee.  Likely, but his support among mainstream Republicans has been eroding, and it's entirely possible that he could be challenged for and lose the nomination.

I would like to point out that the last time a primary challenge has succeeded was in 1884, and that mostly ended up working because Chester A. Arthur A) was growing ill with nephritis and was keenly aware that he wouldn't have survived a second term, and B) alienated his supporters by reforming the Spoils System.

I'm really not seeing the sort of alienating the base that forced the Republicans to go with James G. Blaine in 1884.
