Call for Platelet Donations!

RE: Call for Platelet Donations!
I went to see Mom today. She was very happy with this photo I showed her of Steel. She wondered where he was from and wanted me to thank him.

We hope you're feeling well today, Steel. I saw an entire ward full of people whose lives you could be saving, so don't forget it.

Mom is coming home today, finally. I have platelet donations scheduled for Sunday. I'll probably sleep through the Super Bowl, but whatever.

She responding to treatment? I truly hope so.

In related news, the work web portal was promoting platelet donations amongst Garda staff and members. Supposedly Gardaí make up 3% of Irish platelet donors.

I have permanent dents in the crook of my elbows. Lots of plasma, etc., donated while I was at Purdue. The checks went to the Humane Society.

I can donate again at the end of the month. I think I'll make it a regular thing.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

We're very grateful for you, Steel.

I mean, I get to lie in a comfy chair, watch Netflix, feel good about myself, and help someone. There's literally nothing about it that is a downside. Big Grin

There are also direct donations, so if that's a thing I can do, please let me know.

We think that maybe she is responding. We won't really know until another round, but her platelets were stable for several days before she was discharged. That's promising.

It will mean more time. How much will depend on how long she wants to do this. She's fucking strong as hell, though. Thank you very much for thinking of her, and your company has done a great thing. Platelets really do save lives.

That would be great, but only if you have a compatible blood type. Either way, you save someone like her. Pro tip: if you're really into helping kids to increase your karma output, the children's hospital near here lets you donate to the kids. You could look into something like that.

I wish I had recorded her smile when I showed her a photo of you donating. It's funny because I told my dad that we were spreading the word about platelets and someone was donating. He's ever the skeptic and said, "They say they will." Oh, Dad. What an old grump. Poor thing looked insanely overwhelmed when we learned how to feed her through the tube today.
