By right clicking on an empty section of the panel a menu will appear that will cater to all your needs. Well apart from the seriously dodgy ones.

My sister showed me that trick.
It's amazing 'science' always seems to 'find' whatever it is funded for, and never the oppsite. Drich.

Dude, I'm using Linux for over 2 years! Considering I customized everything in my distro completely on my own, don't you think I know that? Besides, the screenshot I posted is from the right click menu (right click --> "Configure") of the applet Cinnamenu (an advanced version of the default Linux Mint menu in Cinnamon).

I'm considering ditching Windows XP on a box intended to serve as a media processing server, primarily compressing DVD video files and/or converting them to mkv or mp4 video files. The latter is readily available in Linux. The former is reputed to be, but I have no real idea how well compared to DVD-SHRINK on Windows.

Even given that, I'd have to decide on a flavor, likely between Mint and Ubuntu. I don't really have a preference, but Ubuntu may have a stronger user community, which is important to a noobie like me. Beyond that, I don't like Linux Mint's support model, and much prefer the more traditional Ubuntu approach.

DVD shrink was a beauty I remember it well. Why not leave XP where it is and duel boot Mint/Ubuntu, or both.

If you can't read, that's your problem.

The only use the machine will likely see is DVD-Shrink and Handbrake, both of which are fine on XP. If I stay with XP, there's no point in installing Linux.
