Generally, that is true. (for many reasons)

But I was an early adopter for the world's first hd wide panel projector. (sony vpl vw10HT)
I paid a lot. Had it for 19 years! (it died less than a year ago. bought it last century!)

Since then, friends and relos have probably spent double upgrading their flat screens from plasma to lcd to oled to bigger screens, etc...
No God, No fear.

RE: QLED TV
Certainly true of QLED TV! Still, I love the TV,;easily the best picture of any TV I've owned, including the 50 inch Samsung 3D in another room.  (that was $1200 about 6 years ago)

A good friend just bought a 55 inch 4K Kogan* TV for $550 +$40 delivery

Had a look at it yesterday.   Although not as crisp as mine, (in my subjective opinion) the 4K clip on Youtube was easily superior to my old Samsung plasma. Having switched from a very old CRT, my friend is over the moon.

First time I waited was in 1999; first computer; Pentium 2 with Windows 98. Loved it.

Current wait is for a new car (hopefully) . I have a 10 yr old Camry. I want a Corolla. The 2019 Corolla will be released here in April. I will try to get a 2018 plate just before the new model comes out, from stock on hand.  If that doesn't work, I'll buy a Mazda  2 , 2 weeks before the end of the financial year, which is in June here.

*Kogan is an Australian company, founded by Ruslan Kogan in 2006.  He buys cheap Chinese TV's and phones and sticks his own brand on them.  I bought 5 inch Kogan Agora 8 phone last year. It was a bit over $200, and it's terrific . Plenty of features and the camera is fine. NO, it ain't a $600 phone for $200,  but it's a good phone IMO.
