Piracy (as in P2P)
So what do you guys think about Internet Piracy? Is it ethical? Is it Theft?
From my perspective, arts(and science) are not a persons creation but heritage of humanity, so they shouldn't be treated as commodities.

I download quite a lot but I justify it to myself because going to the cinema is so incredibly expensive!!

Good bands make their money by touring and playing concerts. record companies make their money by selling CD's. I may download my music, but when my favourite bands come to town, I fork out fat stacks of cash to see them live.

I would never admit to doing anything illegal on line.Angel Cloud

Last time I went to the cinema, it was to see "Independence Day" at a local flea pit. Cost me $8,an overcharge of $7.50.Cranky

PS I couldn't vote as there was no category for my position. I do not recognise intellectual property rights, but of course comply with the law.

Yeah, it can if if you download a lot of porn and don't know what to avoid (eg wav files and single rar files) Should be OK if you are careful and have a decent security system. I would not use wireless for P2P; too expensive and not secure.

Whenever I can, I download it for free.
I find it that it's hard to beat free.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan
