One does not have to look to far to wonder where they got the idea.

Sainthood is, and always has been, a farce.

I assure you, purveyors of saintly relics and other souvenirs take saints very seriously indeed. They wet themselves with avaricious glee every time a new one is announced.I gather this is largely because the Church has not yet thought of a way to copyright saints,so it's open slather. The only place I've been with anything approaching the number of tacky souvenirs as Rome is Athens--and many of the souvenirs in Athens have the saving grace of being pornographic

Did you know you can buy Papal blessings at the souvenir shop just outside the Sistine chapel? I guess Ratty does truck load at once, with one blessing. The the homely (as a mud fence) old nun behind the counter explained it to me.The blessings are free. The 50 euros are for the fine paper, art work, rent, handling etc etc. Angel Cloud

You know, Pad, that kind of makes sense because the fine paper, art work, rent, handling actually are worth something...as opposed to "blessings" from a former Hitler Youth member which aren't worth shit.

Catholic polytheism exposed....or at least admitted.

How this differs from sacrificing a goat to Apollo is beyond me. I have no use for protestant assholes but at least they have the decency not to pull bullshit like this.
