Strava/Fitness apps.

Strava/Fitness apps.
I just downloaded Strava after a friend recommended it to me saying she's surprised I've not got it.

I instantly love it and regret not getting it years ago.
Anyone else use a anything like this and what sort of stuff do you do?

The longest walk I've done while I've had the app is 16 miles with an elevation gain of 2100 feet.

I don't really time how long the walks take me because I normally stop to take photos and sometimes send my drone up in the air for photos so I'm not in any rush.

Some guy at my climbing gym told me there's challenges you can do on different routes and he was like 5th in the world at cycling up a notoriously steep hill in the area which is impressive.
I've just hit 40 and my fitness levels aren't that insane so I don't think I'll be breaking any records myself but I still love the concept that there's all these obscure records out there waiting for challengers.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Nope. My fitness regimen is pretty primitive - I move around a lot and lift heavy things. That about covers it.

Thanks for that, paulpablo. Looks interesting. This is the kind of thing I would have been all over in my younger days. My focus now is managing my health difficulties and returning to some semblance of fitness.

Congrats on your walk. That has always been my primary form of exercise. I once walked 34 miles in a single day although it was over flat terrain. It was actually the same ~ 1.2 miles of terrain repeated 28 times. It was in my Air Force days when I was on a 90-day deployment to Saudi Arabia. Not exactly a lot to do there.

I don't use any apps but I walk daily circa 7km and lift weights 3 times a week.

RE: Strava/Fitness apps.
So how does this app make you run or walk more?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I did the same thing for 35+ years until my body started breaking down.

It doesn't, directly, but it adds an element of fun to it, thus increasing motivation. I'll do a run this morning to see if I can beat my neighbor's time. Human nature. I'm surprised this isn't obvious to you. Perhaps you don't find fun in games of this sort.

Yeh, it's mainly psychological.
Obviously motivation and psychology are very important though.
When your progress is tracked and on screen with data, it makes it seem like a more concrete achievement.
Beyond that it has maps which show commonly used routes, and probably routes you never thought about using.

34 miles is insane, you must have felt that the day after.
When i do half that amount I can feel aches and try and chill out the day after.

It wasn't all at once. I'd do several walks around the block, then come in for awhile, get bored and go out and do more laps. Repeat several times. At the end of the day/night, I realized I had walked far further than I ever had previously. I never did more than 14 previously or after.
