The show and books aren't stereotypical high fantasy.
It's actually more like a Feudal soap opera.
Interesting. That's probably why I'm not interested in it; it's just a mass appeal show that's essentially a soap opera. No soap opera not the right word . If I had to compare it I would compare it to HBO's Rome. With all the sex ,violence, politics , Moral dilemmas', Inter clan warfare, Inter regional warfare, And in my opinion some of the best inter character dialogue on TV or movies .

I never called it "high fantasy"... regardless, your "alternate" description does nothing for my interest in the show. It's made for the masses, i.e. scantily clad women, naked women, naked men, drama, politics, betrayal, blah blah blah. Not interesting to me.
