Yeah, yankees do like to pretend that racism is a southern issue.  Thing is, it actually is a pretty fair representation of america as a whole.

You could be right. Growing up I was always told that southerners were racists (among other things). Maybe I was too sheltered to see that it wasn’t just southerners.

This year I've been brought up short realizing that my city, Minneapolis, has one of the worst records of racial disparity in the nation, and Minnesota has a long history of racial disparity.

It's totally understandable, it's not like you can refer to the actions in the video as senseless violence.   I don't think anyone is confused about the derogatory use of the N-words possibility of resulting in violence.
