I always thought that’s how Americans spoke since they are a strange species.

Oh and got creates babies in women after men have sex with them. And only when men have sex with them.

Funny how people can pick and choose what to credit God with. He's got to start taking responsibility for some of the shit that goes on.

All the bad stuff goes to Satan, or is our fault. Including times when people claim he causes bad things to happen because we're so sinful. Florida is such a horrible place, so it gets hurricanes. California is such a bad planes because it gets fires. Why god has to be so destructive to Christian and non Christian alike isn't explained well. You'd think everything outside the bible belt would be a ruined wasteland by now.

No matter what god gets all the blame

Free will was his idea

Satan was his idea

He had the option to choose otherwise

Gods get the credit but not the blame.

Recently a religious friend asked on Facebook for prayers for an in-law who was in rough shape in the hospital...there was a long line of 'praying, prayers, prayers sent up, praying hands'...you know the deal.

Then he got better and there was all glory to god. Then the prayer warriors were rallied again as he starting running a fever and was in bad shape again...'praying, prayers, prayers sent up, praying hands'.

Then he died...the end. Other than the announcement that he died...crickets.

This was in a matter of days - under a week.

It seemed that when the FB praying slacked off he got sick again and died...seems like a rather fickle god they were praying to. Or, most likely, all that prayer didn't do shit for the guy. But a bunch of good Christians thought they were helping...till he died and they all went away...I didn't even see prayers for his family.

What a load of crap.

When I was a mere student I was working in an A&E in Melbourne when a teenager was brought in from a car wreck with serious head injuries.

He was in surgery for hours and a neurosurgeon returned from holiday to help out (luckily he was still in the city).

They saved his life and I saw an interview being done for the local news by his parents, “We give thanks to god for this miracle!”

No mention of the highly trained medical professionals.

Just “thank god.”

God is the one who willed it and made it possible. Let me give you an example:

You are an engineer in the example. You built a skyscraper, you designed every inch and made sure the floors don't collapse. After that people lived in it for years and years.

If you want to be fair; they owe their safe living in the building to you, you are the first one deserving the thanks since you are the master architect that built a huge skyscraper that is safe.

Reflect the example on God. He created the whole universe according to the faith of theists. According to our faith; he so deserves the thanks.

But, if god wanted me to get into medicine, why did I spend years and tens of thousands of dollars at med school?

Because of circular reasoning - and it drives me bananas.

God gave that surgeon the skill and talent to perform that particular miracle. Boom!
God gave the scientists the ability to discover DNA and the knowledge of how to use it for good. Boom!
God grew that specific plant that created that specific medicine that cured that specific disease. Boom!

Seriously. I have had this exact discussion w/ a theist.

He didn't choose for you. But he made the choice possible; and made it possible for you to choose and decide.
