Ask how he wants his coffee and he'd take fifteen fucking pages to tell you.
But apart from his over-descriptiveness, The guy knew how to think up a good and original storyline.
I was never much of a Stephen King fan, but I got to meet him and shake his hand during the early 1990's.

Hmm...I haven't read The Long Walk, actually.
I guess now's as good a time as any.
Hell, I'll probably be picking up a night shift sometime this week. I can read it then.

T'would indeed be fitting, if I hadn't read it already.
And speaking of minimally-staffed shifts...I've already read Skeleton Crew, too.

Not a huge Stephen King fan... never read a single one of his books besides On Writing.
However, I recognize his greatness in the world of literature and as a writer I definitely look up to the guy in terms of his success in the world of writing.
There are also more than a few good horror flicks out there based on his books; I'm a huge horror fan so it's really a surprise that I've never read one of his novels.
Interesting though, I'll more than likely check it out.

The Long Walk isn't horror. At least not in the usual way.

Wikipedia says otherwise, for whatever that's worth. Classifies it as psychological horror. Makes sense considering the author. However, Goodreads lists it as one of King's non-horror novels. Then again, it also lists Pet Sematary as a non-horror novel, which is silly. So who knows?
Regardless, I wasn't commenting on whether or not it was a horror novel (I'm aware that King writes other genres), I was simply saying that it's surprising to me that I haven't read any of his novels given how much affinity I have for horror.
I'd still be willing to watch The Long Walk... I love The Green Mile. Probably one of my favorite movies of all time.
Maybe I should read one of King's books some time.

The Green Mile movie was quite true to the book. I read it in serialized form - as SK intended.
I don't give a tin shit for those who hold the opinion the man is a pulp factory. I got every nickles worth of my money in enjoyment from rhe books and the movie.

Nah, King's not a pulp factory. Tom Clancy, on the other hand...

I tend not to read the James Pattersons of the world... I suppose I always avoided SK because he got lumped in with people like Patterson.
