Ok I admit it, that picture made me make weird squeaky noises from sheer adorableness.

Then, when you least expect it, "kitty" bites your big toe hard enough to draw blood.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

I tried keeping fish once, it was a failure. I'd let them out of the tank to get some exercise. They didn't take to it, lazy buggers.
Boru
The sea is full of creatures with a better personality and depth than fish, an Octopus or a sea Turtle would make life pretty different !
Fish on the other hand are...boring buggers with lots of identical copies.

Oh, pish posh. That's just something folks like to tell themselves because fish are tasty....lol.
Fish are more intelligent than people believe. For example--Some species, such as my personal favorite, Betta splendens, have been shown to have excellent long-term memories, are quite capable of recognizing their owner, enjoy social interaction, show appreciation for music, AND....
...are adept at learning tricks.
Oh, what a pretty girl! So adorable!
An Octopus; Thena ! now that would be one hell of a pet; and I think it will eat the fish you got too -_-
I bet that your little darling can't even tell the difference between you and the edge of the water tank. It calls the glass "Thena" too :/

I’ve got two kitties, they’re awesome layabouts.
I don’t mind dogs as long as they’re older and more reserved. Nothing more irritating to me than an in your face, hyperactive dog.

Meh...the animal kingdom as a whole is full of creatures that are "cooler" than conventional house pets.
Most of them aren't exactly easy to procure nor are they necessarily appropriate for domestication, though.
Unless one is able to provide the space/freedom of movement that an octopus requires to thrive, keeping them as pets is pretty selfish, IMO...Cruel, actually.
Octopuses (other the smallest mini-species, perhaps) become bored and very distressed in fish tanks.
This tank's already not big enough for the octopus as is. And it eventually will reach up to 3 feet in length---if it doesn't kill itself trying to escape.

I totally agree that there is something different about how an octopus perceives emotions and especially boredom; they are very smart. That spoiled girl don't deserve it as a pet; the poor thing is locked in a very small tank.
But I found this video and it kept me in awe:
more like an alien life of some sorts
