Confusion seems to be the point.

Carry on.

It'll make more sense when we move on to how 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' is a study in how mass consumerism has ill effects on the youth.

Pretty sure he's already done one on 'Ferris'.  Something about wild, out of control teens.  Or maybe I dreamed it.

edit:  Nope, not a dream.

Some people can handle combat and others cant. I couldn't.

The title was a reference to the movie "An Officer And A Gentleman" in which one buddy washes out, and commits suicide because he doesn't make it through the training. Sorry, but I also washed out of Air Force basic training, but am damned glad I didn't kill myself.

Is this logic too slow for you?

It was a dumb fucking movie - not a documentary.

...

I had a girlfriend at the time who went about calling me her "officer and a gentleman" because I rode a 71 Triumph Bonneville. (Gere had a 79).

Silly girl - I was an enlisted and a scoundrel......

Nope, not too slow at all.  Thank you for explaining it more clearly than in your first post.

Just a minor quibble:  You said 'I also washed out of Air Force basic training, but am damned glad I didn't kill myself.'  The 'also' is unnecessary, as it implies that the character in the film was in Air Force training.  He was in the Navy.
