Her lips were red they shined

Her lips were red they shined
Her lips were red they shined
Her eyes haunted his soul and mind
She is one hell of a kind
But a mere wish, was for they to bind

Live and enjoy the ride..

Mohammed? Is that a poem which prophet Mohammed wrote to his 9 year old lover?
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

First of all, I think the word is “shone.”

Then again, with the line “live and enjoy the ride,” I’m more inclined to think of these words of wisdom:

Reynardine (traditional)

One evening as I rambled among the springing thyme
I overheard a young woman conversing with Reynardine.

Her hair was black, and her eyes were blue, her lips as red as wine.
And he smiled as he gazed upon her, did that sly bold Reynardine.

She said, “Young man, be civil; my company forsake.
For to my good opinion, I fear you are a rake.”

He said, "My dear, I am no rake brought up in Venus' train.
But I'm searching for concealment all from the judge's men.”

Her ruby lips, her rosy cheeks, they lost their former dye.
And she fell into his arms there all on the mountain high.

They hadn't kissed but once or twice 'til she come to again.
And modestly she asked him pray tell to me your name.

He says, “If by chance you look for me, I fear you'll not me find.
But I'll be in my castle, enquire for Reynardine.”

Day and night she followed him, his teeth did shine.
And he led her o'er the mountain, did that sly bold Reynardine.

One evening as I rambled among the springing thyme
I overheard a young woman conversing with Reynardine.

Traditional ballad, Roud 397.

Fairport Convention:

Carolina Chocolate Drops:

And looking into the "shined/shone" controversy, it looks like both are accepted, although, traditionally, "shined" is reserved for when there's an object to that verb, and "Shone" for when it doesn't. So, "she shined her red lips" would be preferred in this case. Then again, it does ruin the rhyme. If you're into that sort of thing in your poetry.

Yeah, peaceful til you know the backstory.  Reynardine was a werefox, who lead young women astray through the mountains.  Once they were thoroughly lost and exhausted, he killed and ate them.

Folk music is never what it seems.
