I always find it amusing that the kids that rock up at the door are called "elders". They are always glassy eyed spotty teens.

An interesting aspect of the JoHos is that women are not allowed to instruct the "men" but they make up around two thirds of the active membership and do the majority of door knocking.

I had a couple of them knock on my door a number of years ago. One was a European woman who did the talking while the other was a big Pacific Island guy who just stood back with his arms folded and tried to look tough.

I asked the woman if the guy was supposed to be intimidating and laughed as I closed the door in her face.

You can see from this image that there is a wide range of sizes and complexities readily apparent on the planet right now! Just extrapolate backwards and viola!

It's not just brain size, otherwise elephants and dolphins would be much smarter than humans

It is also not necessarily brain mass relative to the body size. If that was entirely true, mice would be about as smart as orcas and genuine whales(having relatively small brains) would be dumber than hummingbirds(which have a similar brain size ratio to humans).
Brain development and complexity also play a large role. Certain parts of the brain are for different purposes. How the brain is wired also factors in how the brain operates.
