I would totally vote for you!!

On the topic of the first Atheist President. . . I do not think that the general American population is ready for that. I mean, sure there exists a separation or church and state, but in all reality, religion has unfortunately played a major role in this country's goings on.

Not to mention, there are still quite a bit of ignorant people in the USA. There were people ready to crucify Obama if he wasn't a Christian, and there are people that are pissed about him not having been to church since taking office.

On top of that, every little thing he does regarding any minuscule bit of religious anything gets stretched and torn up by the media *cough*foxnews*cough*. For instance, the quote about the USA not being a Christian, Jewish or Muslim nation, and his speech at Georgetown during which he covered the religious symbols caught quite a bit of negative attention from the media and ignorant public.

This is quite sad, but I believe that it will be many generations before the majority of the country feels comfortable voting an Atheist into office.

Hopefully will some sort of freethinking president turn up, but I don't think we will see one during the century. However Obama seem to have a healthy view on other cultures but also on religion. He doesn't seem to be so very religious, seem more like he don't want to upset the religious population of the U.S.

Anyhow it seems like the 2000 will not be the century of american, just in the same way the 1900 wasn't the britains century. Americas influnce and power will decrease during this century and will no longer be that great superpower it once was. Just looking at it now have americas reputaion and influnce allready decreased specially now during the economic crisis.

I agree!

How about this quote from Sitting Bull:-

" Tell them at Washington if they have one man who speaks the truth to send him to me, and I will listen to what he has to say ".

The great chief said this after years of lies being told and swindles being perpetrated by the white man.
Some better news...it appears Obama has had a rethink and it may now be that some of Bush's gangster aides may face prosecution over the use of torture by the USA post 9/11. May well be Cheney's defence of its use has brought this about...I like to think so.
And on the subject, it's enlightening to read that a former Bush speechwriter, Marc A Thiessen, in defending the use of torture doesn't actually call it " torture ", oh no no, he refers to it as " interrogation with enhanced techniques "!!!!
Oh well, suppose we shouldn't be surprised...remember how " collateral damage " was used to avoid saying " thousands of innocent civilian deaths " ( in wars )?

'Interrogation with enhanced techniques'?!?!??!?!? That's possibly the most ridiculous euphemism I've ever heard. And at the very least, ONE of the most ridiculous of all I've heard!

Undecided I thought the same thing when I first heard that. At least the Obama administration is putting an end to this sort of crap.

I was quite pleased when Obama declared that he was closing Gitmo for good.

I hope we all wish Obama the best of luck in his initiative to roll out affordable health care for all American citizens. In the capital of capitalism, the 45 million who have no such provision, plus those unlucky enough to get seriously ill and theen suffer a financial crisis when the bills come in, must be hoping he succeeds.

Why is everyone so hung up on Obama, so convinced he's great? I mean sure he's an eloquent man and I'm fairly confident he'll do a good job at least by my political ideals but quite frankly he's what ... 5 months in? It's like making a greatest hits CD called the best of 2009 in June ... er ... oh ... they do that too don't they?

To paraphrase Ali G, "Is it because he is black?"
