Actually, it was your great-grandkids’ money, but let’s not quibble.

It's about time those little brats put down the gameboys and did something.

Yeah, don’t put all the blame on Republicans.

I’m curious - when did you get this stimulus check?

The check was printed in April, but I just pulled it out of my mailbox today.

The fuckface insisted his name was printed on the check. "Economic Impact Payment, President Donald J. Trump".  it reads at the bottom.

My stim check went to pay taxes. Almost, but not quite Even Steven.

Again, I get it. If you need it.

But that is not why Trump or the GOP did what they did. I can remember Bush Jr doing the same thing. My X and I got a 300 dollar check. My point is it shouldn't get to this point.

Who is this really benefiting long term? It makes the struggling feel good short term, sure. But how is this going to stop a future condition ending up in the same result?

The key isn't to chase low wages, tax breaks for the rich long term. The key is to pay livable wages, and tax wealth so that when a rainy day comes, like now, far fewer people get hurt.

The GOP's tactic is "let the rich do whatever they want" then when the market crashes, they throw crumbs at the rest of society. And that is only a bandaid creating a false sense of security.

I don’t know what the rules are in the US, but if you wait too long, the check may go stale (no longer be valid) after a period of time.

You should go ahead and deposit it, just don’t spend the money. If it turns out it was sent to you in error (highly unlikely as that is), you’ll have the means to pay it back. If it’s legit, you’ll still have the funds available to give to your friend.

It is NOT free money. Nothing  in life is free.

Taxes pay for everything. Even in our tax code if you make less than a certain amount you are less likely to pay income tax. But the thing is, even the poor pay taxes, every time they buy anything.

There is a stupid myth that taxes are are seperated. In reality, be it a tax on gas, or smokes or food, or property or anything. It is one giant pool, and when one budget gets short congress looks to cut/borrow from other budgets.

Military are paid for by taxes. Police are paid by taxes, fire stations are paid by taxes. But so are Social Security and Medicare. But between someone like Jeff Bezos who is worth 120 billion dollars, and a McDonalds fry cook, whom do you think would get hurt worse by raising taxes?

I don't need a job right now. But I have spent most of my life in low wage jobs. And my mother, while she helped me out, never would have let me drain her. The poor DON'T want free anything. And I am not speaking for myself, but for all those I have worked with and seen struggle. What they want is stability.

Taxes are NOT free. The only argument is what we spend them on. But for anyone to argue the poor don't pay taxes is bullshit. Everything one buys has a tax on it. That means even the poor pay taxes.

Most of the people I know used it to stimulate the economy, that's where it got the name. It not only helped the individual but also the businesses where the money was spent. Did you want the government to wait and review everybody's income and lost income due to Covid before they issued assistance?

You're so funny and wrong. The virus would have hurt the US economy no matter which party was in charge. This was voted on by dems and pubs. No argument that the virus impact is more than likely worse under Trump and the pub controlled senate.

This "we're good, they're bad" position will not solve any issues in the long run.

Almost everything you just said is wrong.

Not the point.

This is a reactionary result, not a preventative forethought.

If the right is going to claim more should be independent, then they can't just now, which they are now, threatening to cut help which they are now doing.

Where do you think most of this stimulus money ends up? If you think it ends up in the savings accounts of the middle class and poor, you are fooling yourself. Just like the bullshit claim anyone on food stamps is getting rich.

The money people spend on food stamps use ends up in the pockets of big business.

They key to economic stability ISN'T to constantly let the rich do whatever they want. Which is what we have been doing far too much for 40 years.

If you want  to talk about "free" our tax code for 40 years has been corporate welfare.
