Rich Americans are audited at a higher percent.  But it's lower than it used to be, in large part due to budget cuts (and in part due to auditing people with Earned Income Tax Credit, because our politicians are more concerned about poor people accidentally getting money instead of rich people getting away with paying less.  It's much easier to audit poor people, because it can be done by computer while auditing the rich usually takes actual human beings.

This is what frustrates me about even both minority and white liberals, and rust belt, middle America conservatives.

The "Monopoly" guy in the top hat at the top of the economic chain, has learned to pit zip code against zip code and race against race.

Trump literally got away with fleecing his "University" investors and bragged about it.

No wonder we've reduced funding to the IRS.  Maybe it's time we fund the Tax Police.

It's real obvious that you don't understand how this shit works.

Very few people go to jail for tax evasion. When they do - it is the government making an example of someone.

The IRS does NOT want to put ANYONE in jail.

Have you seen the TV ads for tax abatement? Why.do you suppose the IRS lets people slide on owed back taxes? They routinely take 10 cents on the dollar of taxes owed. Why?

Because half a loaf is better than no loaf.

It's better in most cases to take what they can - rather than spend money incarcerating someone. Inmates don't pay taxes.

The IRS operates through intimidation. They want you to think you will go to prison (costing 5-6 figures a year) over a few thousand dollars. Nope. Not happening. They will just take your property.

They only go after high profile people - as an example to the masses.

Trump would be a perfect example. A loudmouthed asshat that everyone knows, and few like.

But oddly - he has never done any time for tax evasion. I suspect he has some really good tax lawyers who know not to cross the line.

May be we will allow defunded police to refund themselves from any dodged tax they can reclaim from any politician.

Trump’s dodged tax can fund law and order around his own prison cell for decades.

Also, being white, he needn’t worry the cops would shoot him in the back and put him out of his misery too soon.

I don't see how any minds will be changed by the Trump tax-dump. People who voted for him know very well that he's a criminal... that's part of his appeal.

Basically, one side doesn’t care if overt and frequent de jure crimes are being committed in the process of getting their way with another side.

Oh, yeah, we can look forward to one nation, and more perfect union, and that crap.

Regardless if he is guilty of evasion, if Trump loses his dispute with the IRS, which takes the position that Trump should not have gotten a 79 million dollar rebate, he would owe the US government about 100 million counting the interest.

His supporters are very impressed about him supposedly donating his presidential salary, though.

All tax avoidance is though, is legalised tax evasion. That's what happens when you let the accountants write yoyr tax laws, what should be highly illegal is loopholed into being legal.

To be fair though...

idk sport. i think i rather have trump's 2.5 billion net worth against all you got.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/danalexande...7215032363

none of this is news.

before trump was elected there was a net flix special on him, and it talked about his losses in the 90s between the casino and the failed airlines and a dozen other small businesses when he went bankrupt he showed several billion in losses. somehow he rolls that number every year and can legally do so till he has made that money back and can show a net gain.

We all do this (look for legal ways of writing off expenses) what idiot pays more than his what is legally mandated to the irs?

and of course trump lost money/billions. everyone hates him.. this should say something about the man who not only donates his gov allotted salary but loses billions by taking the job.. while others like obama clintons and the bushs make 10s if not hundreds of millions while in office the office costs trump billions. why? he does it for the country, and not personal gain like we are finding out about biden and obama

You realize that a business model designed to lose money at that scale can only be incompetence or money laundering, right?

You're impressed by his donation of a salary, when he donates that salary to government agencies in which he's installed loyalists who disburse those amounts, and more than those amounts, out to a network of affiliated "consultants". He may be doing whatever he does for country, but that country isn't the us of a - just ask his two idiot sons.
