Atheism & Bisexuality
RE: Atheism & Bisexuality
lol ^_^ I understand your reasoning... but subjective definitions cannot always be used in conversation.

By that, i mean: what is a person describing? If a word has a varying definition... then how can one communicate with the word on a constant basis?

RE: Atheism & Bisexuality
Well we generally share definitions and if we ever misunderstand each other hopefully we will resolve that misunderstanding.

As people do.

But what I said above seems pretty straight forward to me: "I think beauty is beautiful simply because it is so to the evolved observer."

I think you bolded the wrong part really - that's why it's not circular. My point is that it is entirely subjective to the evolved observer. And the keyword there is EVOLVED. Why are some things more beautiful than others? Because that was, at least on average, best for the genes. That is why they have survived. It's because of evolution basically. Genetics - and also with environmental influences.

EDIT: Lol, I found it funny because I've just realized that currently this thread has exactly 1 more VIEW than I have POSTS Lol :p

Lol at edit comment ^_^

See? you've come up with a better hypothesis than me Big Grin I didn't understand what you meant by 'evolved' when i thought it was circular, my apologies Smile

And the theory was a glaringly simple one... >.< /doh

I wonder why music can be beautiful/magnificent then? Is music in our jeans?! I gave my last pair to the Salvation Army... so i can't check... o.o

I'm replacing my overly complex geometric theory with your genetic one Smile

Music obviously stimulates us in some way. The sound that vibrates our ears and affects our spine is felt through out emotions in our brain. The chemicals, etc, etc, certain electrical/chemical brain frequencies etc.

SOMETHING like that lol. I don't actually know exactly - because I'm not a neurologist lol Tongue

But basically it is once again, our subjective perception and experience. Certain frequences of sound 'sound musical' to us.

It's all in the mind Tongue

Hmm, well i've clearly left the neurological part of my education underdeveloped. I should probably remedy that.

No wonder interacting with other cultures is so hard: conversation is subjective : /

I'll admit that I did not read "Every" page on this topic...(A little late coming into it)..... So as far as the original question:

I'll simply say and agree completely with what another poster stated;

That's exactly my thought. Those of us who can at least identify ourselves as atheists would have to a have a certain level of confidence and self esteem - I don't think it means that more atheists are bisexual, but what you're seeing is a more accurate representation of how many people in the general population are actually that way inclined.

Did you know that similarly women can be turned on by gay men? In Japan there's a market for Yaoi (MxM) marketed to women. There's also Hentai (MxF) and Yuri (FxF)

yes!!! I like yaoi! (girl speaking)

this is a good example: in Japan where sexuality is pretty liberal (as long as there’s discretion) homosexual fantasies have always been portrayed in popular culture (manga, books...) for all the audience!

I would say there is no link between the two...However, just as stated before, an Atheist is more likely to be more open about his feelings or thoughts when it comes to looks, sexual feelings, etc. towards both sexes compared to a theist.

I am attracted to women and always have been, but I can tell the difference between an ugly man and a handsome one. (If that makes any sense to you all)....

I don't believe it makes a man gay for showing affection in friendship to a man (A hug, kiss on the cheek etc), or even telling his best friend that he loves him as a brother. Call it the feminine side of a man or whatever, but I believe it's more healthy to show your love for your fellow male friend than not.

Now of course that's only if your best friend felt the same....lolol... I can just imagine me going up to some of my male friends I have and giving him a kiss on the cheek and telling him I love him for who he is as my friend..... I'm sure I would leave with a black eye or two, and be less one friend...OLOLOL

I frequent an asexual website, and there seems to be a distinctly large population of atheists there too.
I wonder what that means?
Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
