All night Long by Reverend Jeremiah

All night Long by Reverend Jeremiah
My very first youtube music video upload! All night long is an original metal song that I wrote back around the summer of 2006 or so. My wife Christina liked the music and the lyrics, so she decided to help me get my lyrics and sound together and do ALL of the vocals for me. Yes, all of the singers are my wife double tracking on top of herself, and for her first time ever doing it I think she did a spectacular job of it. I am playing all of the guitars and leads on a Fender Strat. The bass line I did with my sweet '74 Ric. The drum lines were hand written by me inside of Cakewalk Producer Edition software (no drum machines on this one). The song was finalized on Sony Soundforge software by me and Christina. My only wish is that I should have turned the guitars up 3db in certain places, or added better volume enveloping on them, but all in all I think the recording turned out well.

Lyrics:

Every day the preachers say "the only way is christ"
"Don't speak out" they scream and shout and make you pay the price
They don't want your freedom
They don't care at all.
Trust the word is all you've heard and soon enough you'll fall.

They drive your body to the edge of disaster
Even though you know it's wrong
Never resting you're falling faster
Even though you try

All night long

Every day the preachers say that "He's the one who's right"
It's not hard to start a war or take somebodies life
Send the soldiers for Jesus
Soon they lay in pain
It goes to show thats all they know
And lost their lives in vain

Your wife sounds like a certain awesome 70's rocker chick... Guess who I mean.

Nice to see another Gat slinger here Big Grin Love the tone on the lead, it's crispy with the right amount of reverb. Nice pinch harmonics too, and the legato is EPIC Smile Makes me want to get back into shredding shape, I'm a bit rusty Tongue

That singer is her favorite inspiration, and thanks for the good words.. especially the gat tone...I spent most of my time on that recording trying to get that tone and verb just right. To bad you dont live close by, I just put a barn in my yard and I have plenty of room to jam in it. I'm really into the Hendrix style of lead guitar...I warm up on little wing..I'm also big on slap and tap bass like Flea and Primus style.

This is the closest I come to Lional Richie:

Here is my best try at making some 1970's sounding porn background music. I played a Fender Strat for the guitars and leads. I played my '74 Ric bass "Gertrude" for the bass lines. Drums are hand written by me in Cakewalk Producer. Keyboards are all done by me as well on a Korg. In this song I do a technique (not sure what the technique is called) where I bend a string up, and push the wammy bar down at the same time. It makes for some interesting sounds

I do that too, you get the same note with a different tone and a nice transition between the two, it's a freakin nice sound.

The lead tone there is, again, EPIC.

I turn the distortion all the way up, I drop the low on the eq 33%, mid all the way up, and highs about 66%. I put about 33% compression on it, and most of the effects I put on my guitar never go higher than about 66%. I try to stick to the rules of 3's: 3db intervals on volumes, 3 seconds of silence between songs, 33% intervals on the effects (33% = light sounding, 66% = just right), for every three tracks of guitar you record you should drop all 3 tracks by 3db to make up for the added volume.

When it comes to playing guitar, I think it is all in where and how hard you place your pick palm on the strings and where you place it and when you remove it when you strike that makes all of the difference in the overall sound quality. If you have good palm mute control you can make a cheap guitar sound epic. Fresh strings and good pickups also help, thats why I prefer playing strats..they have all the sounds you could ever want by toggling that pickup lever back and forth. Sort of like this:

See how he switches the pickups between playing..I do that on these videos sometimes..it really helps emphasise certain notes and phrases.

Pick up some youtube vids and get your chops back up to speed. Plenty of people post vids to challenge you or just to help educate.

Playing guitar is like sex. First you string the bitch up tight. Then you tweek it and turn her knobs until she is sweet and hot. Then you pick it nice and slow until you get to a good steady strumming. then you slap that bitch on the body, pinch them strings to make her scream, and build it all up to a climactic explosion. From there you can either pass out or cradle it back down to rest. THAT, to me, is what music should be like..INTENSE!..epic!..orgasmic!
