If anything, I need to try to be more "white", not less "white". I need to be more successful like other whites, more responsible, more confident, more innovative. You can make any race look like shit if all you focus on are the negatives. Yeah, whites have done some not nice things, and whites in power are still doing some not nice things, but anyone in power would do not nice things. Power corrupts. That's not a white people thing. It's a power thing.

'It's ok to be white' is seen as hate speech but we have people in this very thread arguing that Robin DiAngelo is just telling the hard truth like it needs to be told. Stop being white, because it's not ok to be white.

The clear implication is that you think white people are more responsible, confident and innovative than non-white people.

The notion that white people should somehow be lauded for ending slavery is like thanking a man for handing you a bandage after he stabs you.

Not just assume that a white employee at Coca-Cola is oppressive because they're white and tell them to be less of what they are unfairly assumed to be. We shouldn't assume that someone is hard working and responsible because they are white, nor should we assume that someone is not hard working and irresponsible because they're black. Being less white doesn't mean anything because being white doesn't mean anything. We are all individuals.

If someone like Contrapoints can manage to talk people down from going all 14/88, there has to be a better way of convincing the average person to check their privilege than telling them how to be less white, even if it’s just saying “yeah, I can see why you’d think that, but the thing is, here’s why it’s wrong and why you should act differently.”

Not if her thesis is correct.  The demand for a Better Way™ is yet another example of complicity to systemic racism.  Insisting that it be dealt with in some way that privileges it.  She makes a big point of step one being to define what whiteness is to you.

We know what whiteness is to IA (and so we know what subwhiteness or unwhiteness is, as well).

In the same way that nothing about whiteness has anything to do with having white skin as IA explains it, nothing about whiteness has anything to do with white skin as the course instructs, and...ofc....it doesn't even ask him to be less white as he sees whiteness. His whiteness, instead, reads as a direct lift of the self fulfilling prophecy of white supremacy.

He has no objection, only the white defensiveness she refers to in explaining how we got here. He's fragile, and that's why he's bought into so much white supremacist shit. Stop and think about what we say - whether it makes us complicit to systemic racism. Stop and think about what we do - whether it makes us complicit to systemic racism. Whites do have accomplishments and are pretty big winners when you look at world history. They invented the computers we are using to communicate with. They conquered shit. They founded the greatest superpower in world history. That doesn't mean I did those things. I don't have pride in being white because whites invented computers. Being white is an accident of birth. I didn't accomplish anything by being born white.

Whites per capita are more responsible and more successful than some groups, and are less so than other groups. Whites are somewhere in the middle. Asians are harder workers per capita. I appreciate all races and see good in all of them. I judge people as individuals. Like I posted before, to be less white means nothing.

I understand very well about unconscious bias and how we're all a little bit racist when it comes down to it. I'm imperfect just like everyone else, but assuming a white person is oppressive right off the bat and telling them to stop being white is racist as hell. Only a racist wouldn't see that.
