It’s nice to know there were some people in Japan at the time fighting the good fight. And to think that a few years prior, humanity (and Japan in particular) would drop the ball so badly that (and I wish I was kidding) a Nazi had to be the one to save lives. To be fair, said Nazi wound up doing fuck all of note once he was recalled back to Germany, but still.

Well, Rabe tried to advocate for the Chinese in Japan-controlled areas, but the Gestapo had other ideas. Rabe brought evidence of the Japanese atrocities back to Germany , but wasn’t allowed to present it to Hitler.
