That's being slightly unfair 

Hydro dams do cause damage to surrounding area's and it's a legitimate concern. Not to mention they are a risky investment.

Nuclear power is not a silver bullet either as it's pricy as hell, And it's not like their no legitimate concerns of having any kind of power generation near you.

My real concerns are the heavy diesel using transport vehicles and how to shift them away from it.
Trucks, rail, air , shipping...

There'll need to be a paradigm shift along the line in battery tech for this to occur.
Solid state tech won't do it ... Graphene might. In 10-20 years

Not sure what the solution may be tbh. It's complicated. We evolved and became industrialized this way.

4 trillion kWh for an entire country divided by 5 million kWh for a plant run 24/7/365 is enough for 800 nuclear power plants. And once we get past the knee-jerk objections, I don't see why this can't happen.

And even if it does become that hard, well, do you really think we can keep depending on oil forever? The most optimistic estimates say we'll hit peak oil in a bit less than a century, and the most pessimistic ones say we already have. And once we do, it'll be all downhill from there. Sooner or later, we have to figure out alternatives. And frankly, in terms of both environmental impact and practicality, nuclear energy is still the best option we've got.

I'll be super happy that someone other than tesla is in the market and buy one of their reasonably priced vehicles, business as usual - just like I have, and my parents have, and parents parents have. I already use a converted jenny tractor. I couldn't make the money I do without it.

Everytime The Wife gets an electric hydrid rental she lists off the pros and cons to me...sooo, you know - good for the environment, good for my bottom line, and a pretty girl wants me to buy one.

I don't know how this turned into some malthusian fetish other than the fact that you probably think about at least -some- people just disappearing on a regular basis, OLB. The population isn't the problem, the population is your problem. Go fuck yourself.

Don't get me wrong...go off grid. Just know that you'll pay more to go off grid for the same tech that the rest of us will be using on grid, a grid which uses more and more of that tech itself.
