Apparently, this place thinks nurses need practical knowledge in algebra and geometry, as indicated in the aptitude test I took. I passed the reading part with flying colors, naturally. I was a mere twelve points off from passing the math section, and the only option was to retake the test. I kindly thanked them for wasting my time and now I need to find a school where I can simply go into the nursing program without any sort of aptitude testing nonsense.
My guess is that Algebra would be needed for calculating dosages. That, and it seems Algebra is required for almost any higher education...I battled through it and hated every minute when I went back to college a decade ago.
Geometry is a little puzzling for a nursing degree though. Thank goodness I didn't need to get through that.

One should know algebra for dose calculation, yes. The loss of a drug in a person's system is an exponential decay curve. Given a dose of a drug, it will still be in one's system at a later time than the next recommended dose. That, and having a vial of a concentrated medicine that requires dilution prior to administering it isn't a time to sit and dope it out. The conversion should be second nature to avoid over- or under-dosing. I'm not sure what geometry would do for nursing. I guess having to figure out proofs would provide some orderliness of mind, i.e., the flow of logic.

@
Eleven You could always learn nurse math (tutorials/tests) and increase your skills. They are all over the net. With just a bit of practice you could pass the test threshold.
Edit: Also talk to the nurses at work. They can teach you some math short cut calcs.

Discovered that a girl at work is a Satanist. Told her I respect it more than Christianity due to how humanistic it is.

Nah. I'm the one who approached her regarding the necklace she wears. Besides, I'm always aware when a girl likes me.

Cut back to working four days a week, because forty hours a week was becoming too stressful.
