Why not dismiss the trinitarian belief outright

Why not dismiss the trinitarian belief outright
Hey there,

One of the most puzzling questions for me regarding christianity is why the doctrine of Trinity was accepted into mainstream christian beliefs.. even more puzzling is how some people accept it, without a problem, as a core article of faith. Beliefs should at least be internally consistent. The assertion that three separate entities exist as one unique entity clearly contradicts the law of identity, and thus should be ruled out

This is one of my favorite videos about christianity. W.L. Craig, probably the most famous christian apologist alive, compares the trinitarian God to .... the mythological three-headed Dog!!! Didn't he notice that each head is a damn head.. not a dog?? In contrast, the Father, the Son, the Father are each clearly equivalent to dogs.......

Am I missing something, or is trinitarian belief a very basic logical mistake ...?

I do dismiss it outright. However, the trinitarian justification that the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three persons in one essence. They aren’t descriptions of aspects of God, but are all names for God.

Go figure.

Wouldn't this a good question for a Christian forum?

Why go to the atheists to ask when you know they already don't buy into it?

Are you saying that the Abrahamic god of your fancy is more Abrahamic then the god of someone else's fancy?

Weird. I not only dismiss the trinity, but also the imaginary deity that underlies it. Why ask people who cant give a fuck about the deity in the first place?

Beats seven shades out of me.

Would you believe there are some folks who follow the words a murderous pedophile?

I am reading Craig's article about this
https://www.reasonablefaith.org/writings...e-trinity/

He says, verbatim : "There are three persons, denominated the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who deserve to be called God, and yet there is but one God, not three".

So Craig thinks the Father has all the properties a god has. And so do the Son and the HS. Anyway The last bit in bold really seems to me an arbitrary justification, if an entity has the properties of a God, then it is the God. Why block the conclusion there are three Gods AND one god according to this belief.?

Well, aren't there any christians here ?

I am just curious to know if there are any real justifications for this belief. Most atheists here were christians too so I expected you would know a lot about this

At least monotheism isn't logically contradictory. So, in this sense it is superior -or more Abrahamic, as you put it- to trinitanian belief, I think.

But it’s NOT three Gods. It’s one god with three names. The Father is not the Son is not the Holy Spirit, but they’re the same one God. You and Craig are arguing a straw man.

You say : "The Father is not the Son is not the Holy Spirit, but they’re the same one God." This is strictly equivalent to 3=1 because these are not just names of God, but persons who deserve to be called God

Anyway, I think I'll better head to a christian forum. I'm not sure anymore if I am getting sincere defenses or ironic statements

Oh yes. You want honesty. Fine. WLC is a lying scumbag. Is that sufficiently honest for you?
