Quote:Conservationists working to protect Northern Ireland's iconic World Heritage Site have removed more than 20kg (44.1 lb) of unwanted coins from between its basalt pillars.

Work to remove the coins got under way in May last year following concerns the coins were damaging the causeway’s rocks.

"It is a relief, the coins were doing a significant amount of damage ," Dr Cliff Henry, nature engagement officer with the National Trust said.
"These coins were rusting and expanding and were capable of pressing the whole column of rock above them, pushing them up," he told BBC Radio Foyle's North West Today programme.

Quote:It is thought visitors were leaving them behind for luck or for love.

Your personal superstitions don’t give you leave to vandalize a World Heritage site.

People throw coins whenever they see water. I think the stupidest place is when I see coins in the crocodile's puddle in the zoo.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

True enough, but people weren’t simply throwing coins in the Causeway. They were actually hammering coins into the gaps between the stones.

This is the same mindset of people who can’t seem to understand why they shouldn’t chip bits off the Parthenon.

Will they see this as a sign from God??

Quote:Man, 41, dies after large sign falls at Christian festival in West Sussex

A 41-year-old man has died and at least six other people have been injured after a large sign fell at a Christian festival in West Sussex, police have said.

The man, from Eastbourne, East Sussex, was pronounced dead at the scene after the incident at the Big Church festival near Steyning on Friday afternoon.

His next of kin have been told and are being supported by specialist officers, Sussex police said. The force added that at least six other people had been taken to hospital for treatment.

In a post on Instagram shortly after 5.30pm, organisers told attenders that the show had been cancelled and all day visitors “must leave the site now”.

Organisers later said they had decided to cancel the rest of the festival, which had been scheduled to run until Sunday. “We are devastated by the serious incident that took place at Big Church festival 2026 today, in which a sign fell, injuring at least seven people, one of whom tragically lost their life,” the festival said in an online statement.

The Giant's Causeway, of all bloody places?

What the hell is the point of that?

Perhaps tourists should be banned from getting too close.

It's a sign that God has a sense of humor after all.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
