Heard back from one of the companies I emailed about our roof. Here’s more or less how the exchange went:
Them: Before we send out an estimator, I have a few questions.
Me: Okay.
Them: How old is your home?
Me: 54 years.
Them: How many floors?
Me: Two - ground floor and a loft/attic.
Them: And what type of roof do you have?
Me: Slate.
Them: Pardon?
Me: It’s a slate roof.
Them: I mean is it shingle, steel, copper...?
Me: Shingle, I suppose. The shingles are made of thin slabs of slate.
Them: No, sir. Shingles are made of either asphalt or fibreglass.
Me: Have a nice day. *click*
I chuckled over that for an hour, so it was an amusing day.

Boru A lot of those " slate" roofs here in the states are made of asbestos...... Judging from the age of your house it is not unlikely yours are asbestos as well......

In 2016 we got hit with a freak hailstorm with stones as big as softballs. Needless to say we had a lot of damage. I remember standing in the living room and looking up helplessly while listening to the hail punch through the roof and windows explode all over the house.
Our house is kind of A-framed. The roof is pretty steep. The first roofing crew finally showed up, stood in the yard looking up and discussing it, and eventually decided that they weren't doing it. So we waited for a braver (crazier) crew to get brought in by the contractor.

Weekend at a friends place on the river. Fishing, swimming, catching up, cochon de lait, and a keg of Oberon Wheat.

I am originally from Kalamazoo - and currently only 20 minutes from the factory and outlet store. ..
Back in the 80' s when they first opened up we would buy beer cubes from them. Simular to wine in a box - but held 6 gallons.
$14.95.
Fortunately I could drink lots of beer back then
...

Today is abs day. My least favorite of the days. It'll be worth it. 
Also been playing a long-ass game of Eldritch Horror. You're only supposed to top out at 8 players but I'm using all 12 character sheets. Solo. The Old One is Shub-Niggurath.This is my third day in a row playing.
Got the riding mower out this morning in preparation to do the yard. As we walked past it a few minutes later, Colby growled at it in an anxious, frightened way and he stood behind me, lol. I think the black shield on it might have seemed scary to him or something.
A pretty good day so far.
