That hackers powerful enough to take the Internet Archive down are just about as stupid as these people:
Seriously, if SN_BLACKMETA's Twitter account is accurate, this is their motive:
Quote:The Internet Archive has and is suffering from a devastating attack. They are under attack because the archive belongs to the USA, and as we all know, this horrendous and hypocritical government supports the genocide that is being carried out by the terrorist state of 'Israel.'
In the real world, the Internet Archive has zero actual affiliation with the US Government, and, among the 99 Petabytes (equivalent of 99,000 terabytes) of data that they took down most likely included a LOT of information about the Palestinean freedom movement. They have apparently been informed of this, and either cannot comprehend that something like this can be done without the assistance of the state or do not care, saying to a Cybernews reporter:
Quote:Everyone calls this organization “non-profit,” but if its roots are truly in the United States, as we believe, then every “free” service they offer bleeds millions of lives. Foreign nations are not carrying their values beyond their borders.

The birth name of author Anne Rice was Howard Allen Frances O’Brien.

Didn't realize Howard was a unisex name.

It isn’t. Her mum was kind of a boozy nutter who thought that a male name would give her daughter an edge in the world.

One of the characters in the novel I'm writing has a weird name because of an alcoholic mother.

When I first lost my fingers, I tried writing with my left hand, but I just couldn't do it. After two weeks of trying, I just gave up. Since that time, I've learned to hold the pen with my left hand, and guide it through the movements with my right hand. I was labeling vacuum seal bags tonight, and I learned that my left hand has learned enough from the right hand that I can label the bags with my left hand without any help from the right.

In 1983, Issac Asimov had bypass surgery. His main concern was that his brain might be impaired if he didn't received enough oxygen while under anaesthesia. He extracted a promise from his surgeon to make sure to test his cognition as soon as possible after the surgery.
After the operation, his doctor said, 'Make up a limerick.' Asimov promptly recited, 'There was an old surgeon named Paul / With a penis exceedingly small...' at which point the surgeon said, 'Stop right there, Isaac - you're fine.'

I learned about the day the Klan came to Worcester, MA, 100 years ago.

The article tells the story of the klan rally and ends with the rebranding of hate by groups like NSC-131 making noise today.

Quote:Rules about race
Alex Briesacher, a sociology professor at Worcester State University and Erika Briesacher's spouse, said that in the early 20th century, the American “white” racial category was much narrower. In order to be considered white and be accepted among white Americans, a person had to have Northwestern European roots, which were referred to as “Nordic,” and belong to a Protestant church, according to Erika Briesacher.
“The notion of whiteness around that time is constantly shifting,” Alex Briesacher said. “Part of the reason it's shifting is the influx of immigration that's taking place, so it's not just drawn around racial lines, but also ethnic and religious lines.”
The 1920s-era Klan became active in New England, particularly in Maine, according to McClymer, and focused on concentrating political and economic power in the region’s so-called “Nordic” population.
“There's a perception, which still exists today, that 'these unskilled people are coming in and taking our jobs and making it harder for us,’” Alex Briesacher said. “This is about building up a group identity in opposition to these immigrant groups that are viewed as undesirable or threatening to what was considered the white population.”
Not exactly remarkable, but it's interesting how the anti-identity Americans are all about manufactured identities that they feel they must protect.

Apparently, it's possible for a film to be thrown over budget solely because of mirrors (specifically starting at 9:48).
Now, I've seen the movie, I own it on Blu-Ray, and it's probably one of the most horrifying films I've ever seen, but this little tidbit makes me want to post this:
- Above the Line Costs: €25,000
- Production Costs: €60,000
- Mirrors: €300,000
- Post-Production Costs: €15,000
someone who is good at the economy please help me budget this. my slasher movie is running out of money
