They are christian in some sense but in another sense, it is a very modified form of christianity.
All these religions are based on judaism, which is the original religion. I call it Judaism version 1.0 and the various sects based on it would be sub-versions.

Christianity would be Judaism v2.0
Islam is Judaism v3.0
Mormonism is Judaism v4.0

Each of these religions spawns off sects. They are based on small disagreements.

All religions are bed time stories. There is a better word for it. They are called Just-so stories. They contain wild claims that can't be verified.

For example: the claim that Mary was magically impregnated by the jewish god to give birth to Jesus.
For example: the claim that Zacharias had a visit from an angel named Gabriel. The angel tells him he is going to have a boy which is suppose to be very special. Then, Zacharias does not believe the angel so the angel mutes him for a while.
The boy in question is going to be John the Baptist. The story is somewhat similar to the story of an angel visiting Joseph, the father of Jesus.

The Protestants seem happy to count Catholics and Mormons when they're bragging that there are 2.4 billion Christians in the world.

Which they kind of are....but actually Catholics might not be Christians, in the traditional sense. Mormons are something different. I had a chance to get baptized as a Mormon a few years back and ended up not going through with it.

No Christian franchise is more traditionally Christian than Catholicism.

If the Mormons are still aware of you, they may very well baptize you after you die.
