Should Christians sing “Buddha is dead and Allah is silent”?

A new worship song has been doing the rounds on social media and raising some eyebrows.

Bailey Redmond’s ‘Dead Idols’ includes the lyrics, “Buddha is dead, Muhammad’s in the grave, Allah is silent, they’re all dead idols”.

Bailey Redmond says that it was her compassion for those who are lost that led her to first sing “Buddha is dead, Muhammad’s in the grave, Allah is silent, they’re all dead idols”. She wants to proclaim the truth and to rebuild God’s altar (like Elijah did in 1 Kings 18) in the context of a nation where she believes Christianity is under attack.

So should songs like this be written and sung? I think it’s hard to argue that they shouldn’t because at its core, the song is expressing what we believe to be true. After all, many of us sing Chris Tomlin’s “Our God is greater / Our God is stronger / God you are higher than any other”. Granted this song feels more in your face than that, but they are essentially expressing the same truth. Ultimately, we need balance. God is holy and jealous, but God is also compassionate and kind. We need songs that speak to all of these truths.

US President Donald Trump closed out the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Texas on Thursday night by making attendees take a pledge to vote in the November midterm elections.

"I pledge to the greatest president in the history of the United States ... I’m going to get my friends, my family, and we are going to vote on Nov. 3, or we are going to vote before that ... I don't care if I'm registered or not. I'm going to try and cheat like hell, like they do," Trump told the crowd, implying that Democrats cheat during elections.

After attendees made the pledge, Trump added another remark that roused the audience: "You know what happens if you don’t vote? You go to hell."

Russians are unleashing their superweapon that will defeat Ukrainians.

Orthodox church sends medieval prince’s remains to Russian troops in Ukraine

The Russian Orthodox church has sent a fragment of a medieval warrior prince’s remains to troops fighting in Ukraine, saying the relic would “spiritually strengthen” soldiers and help them achieve victory.

A reliquary containing part of the right hand of Dmitry Donskoy, the 14th-century prince revered in Russia for his victory over the Mongolian Golden Horde in 1380, has been taken to Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine and is now being transported along the frontline.

The Russian Orthodox church said in a statement: “The holy commander is going to where the fate of the fatherland is being decided today, so that he may invisibly take his place in the same battle ranks as our defenders.”

The relic was first brought on Tuesday to the Savur-Mohyla war memorial in the Russian-occupied Donetsk region of Ukraine, where senior Orthodox clergy held a prayer service alongside representatives of the Russian military.

Metropolitan Vladimir of Donetsk and Mariupol said its presence would help soldiers and civilians “mobilise their strength” and secure victory over the enemy.

Earlier this year, relics of Alexander Nevsky, another medieval prince and military hero revered by the Russian Orthodox church, were also sent to the front.
