Despite being an Atheist, I am pro-life. Most of my family are pro-choice, and so I often get into debates with them, the time this particular incident happened was while I was talking to my grandmother. We were debating, and she said "Abortion is between a woman and God." I informed her that I'm an Atheist, and she said "No you aren't!". Not even in a joking manner, she genuinely thinks I'm not.

Yeah, there are atheists that are against abortion. For example, Roger Ebert was against abortion.
But there are many Christians, including Catholic priests who are for abortion (especially when nuns get pregnant).
In fact, many doctors who perform abortions are Christians. Take Dr. George Tiller who was assassinated in the vestibule of his home church, Reformation Lutheran, in Wichita, Kansas, handing out bulletins for the day’s services.
There is also The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice which is an abortion rights organization founded in 1973 by clergy and lay leaders.

I don't see the label of pro-choice as being the same as pro-abortion. I would much rather see effective birth control used than an abortion performed. That said, there are reasons for abortion to be available. I would never want a woman to have to carry a dead fetus until 'nature takes its course" and I understand the reasons that a pregnancy can happen at the wrong time. I have considered abortion in the past and have known others who have either had one or decided not to and can say that it's not a simple decision in most cases.
Abortion is a decision for a woman to make based on the best information available to her and that doesn't include the idea that some god, or clergy, or stick up the butt person thinks is correct for her.

I know, I was just saying because it's rare for an Atheist to be pro-life.
I was just mentioning that despite the average Atheist being pro-choice, I don't happen to be.
Same with Christianity but it's vice versa.

I'm pro-birth control, pro-abstinence, pro-anything that prevents pregnancy really. However, I believe that when the fetus (I don't really believe it's a "baby") starts forming, then the proper thing to do is give birth. I understand the adoption and foster care problems, and that's why I believe one of America's biggest concerns should be improving those.
I understand why people are pro-choice, I just disagree.
