Professoinal Wrestling Discussion
I didn't know whether to put this here or in the off topic board. I guess it can count as a sport still even if it is scripted and all that.

Anyhoo, who's a fan of wrestling around here? I've been a fan since 98 and watched different shows like WWE, WCW, ECW, TNA, NWA, and more recently AEW. Lately there seems to be a wrestling program on almost every day of the week. Monday you got RAW, Tuesday NXT, Wednesday AEW, Thursday TNA, Friday SmackDown and Rampage, and Saturday and/or Sunday would sometimes be a pay-per-view or special event.

The biggest news recently is that CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, and Adam Cole has all gone to AEW after being fed up with WWE (Punk's case going years back while the latter two are more recent). Also it seems that AEW, TNA, NWA, NJPW, and AAA are all working together to an extent allowing people to hold belts from different promotions in different places. It seems AEW will work with anyone BUT WWE. Also it seems ROH has closed its doors after 18 years.

I’d rather be circumcised by a near-sighted epileptic wielding rusty garden shears than watch professional ‘wrestling’. No offense.

I haven't watched since the days of Mad Dog Vachon and Barron Von Raschke.

I can remember watching American wrestling when I was 13 or 14. I really enjoyed watching the midget tag teams.  There was also a bloke called "Gorgeous George" who was pretty entertaining. Even then I understood it wasn't real.

Oh, oh, also  loved the violently competitive team roller skating.  Don't know how real that was , but sometimes it did look as if some players had been really injured

These days i watch NJPW and AEW. WWE has burned far to many careers to the ground (seriously how did they manage to ruin Shinsuke Nakamura) and all the times they Bray Wyatt from a legitimate menace to a Saturday morning cartoon villain is beyond me and I don't get into how they botched the Undertakers retirement  Dodgy

I was a fan in my teen years in the 1970s. I was into the heels. Stan Stasiac and the devastating heart punch, lol. Lumberjack Larry Hennig whose parents demanded he drag home a dead American Indian every morning before they would give him his breakfast.

Yeah, the wrestling thing is a good demonstration of how vulnerable the human mind is to manipulation. I was an atheist at this point. But I believed wrestling was real and ancient aliens had visited Earth.

As the guy who got turned into a newt said in the the Monty Python and the Holy Grail - I got better.

Make no mistake though: We are all vulnerable to be manipulated into being stupid. Our brains are hard-wired to favor emotion over logic. It is an uphill battle for us all.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

There is no such thing as "Professional wrestling". There is just professional acrobatic stunt acting. "Pro wrestling" is nothing more than a soap opera for jocks.

Real wrestling is what you see in high school and the Olympics.

I don' t think there' s been anny improvements since. It was pretty much perfect.
