Didn't it remind you more of The Zimmermann Telegram?

There's that, too.

Ukraine has been beefing up their mech infantry backend with an aim toward maintaining Leos in country in future through a deal with Rheinmetall. Moar Marder.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I see where Putin's letting women out of prison to fight for the Fatherland. Now, the drunken men will have drunken women to consort with and console each other as they are immolated at the war front. That's disgusting and disturbing. I'm only happy that it's the aggressors.

Fortunately, no other countries ever engaged in such a heinous practice. Except for, you know, the US, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Poland…

I can't speak about the other countries, but I'm pretty sure a felony conviction in American is a solid bar to serving in uniform, nowadays. Used to be a judge here would vacate a felony charge if the accused enlisted in the armed forces, but our military got tired of that back in the 60s, for indiscipline in the ranks.

I’m aware, which is why I used the past tense.

I had fellow enlistees in boot camp who had been given 6 years- "take your pick, prison or the service". I can tell you that some of the "regular" guys acted like criminals, too.

Right, but comparing the UK from 100 years ago or America from 60 years ago to modern-day Russia is not apt. We're not talking about the past; we're talking about the here-and-now. That's why I used the term "nowadays".

It's apples and oranges. Dragging up a tu quoque from decades ago has a point, I'm sure, but I'm not sure what it is.
