[split] Ethics - parental responsibility re: children
RE: [split] Ethics - parental responsibility re: children
Just the persona you put forward here. You can save it, I’m not buying. You may be sick- but you’re also an asshole, pure and simple.

The thread is about ethics. It’s not your personal support group.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I'm not even sure I've ever felt what people call "happy" at any point in my life. And to top it all off, I'm not allowed to do anything fun anymore. I can't drink, I can't smoke weed, I can't edge to porn for hours at a time, nothing. It's like God wants me to be bored and miserable.

Boofuckinghoo.  You can't spend your days getting fucked up and jacking off.  My heart bleeds for you.

I am done.

You don't care that I feel no joy in my life? I mean, it's not your problem, but where's your compassion? This is why I don't care about this world, because most people share your attitude, and what's the point of living in a world full of people who don't care about me?

Sure. The reason that you’re an asshole is because people aren’t sufficiently compassionate to your plight of being an asshole. Run with it!

Not an argument for anti natalism.

I care so little that you are now joining the select few on my ignore list.

Well I know you're wrong. I just find your arguments interesting to examine.

If you know it, you can show it.

Some people have better or worse lives than other people. Meaning life is inherently unfair. If life is unfair, (and always has been and always will be), then life needs to either be changed, (on a fundamental level), or simply ended. How are you not getting this?

There may be some lives that are, in effect, not worth living- but that could only speak to those lives. It’s not enough to make a normative statement about procreation in general even on its own grounds, even if we accept the premises for the lulz.

I too think that, whenever that’s the case, it should be changed. That is the point of social programs, advocacy, charity, and volunteerism…after all.

Is it really worth rolling the dice, (by having children)? Every new person brought into this world is a person who might end up hating his/her life. Is it really worth the risk?

social programs/advocacy/charity/volunteering are not fundamental solutions.
