What could this be?

RE: more to fight over
I'm just waiting for the bitch fest that erupts when the churches deem it non-canonical to avoid the potentially abundant contradictions.

This must be about the earliest biblical artifact discovered to date no?

And all we have to do is wait for minimalist to come in, take one look at it, and tell us all seven hundred and fifty reasons it is not evidence of 'Christ's last days.

But I enjoy a good war, so when do we get started?

It's dated to 1BCE.... 33 years BEFORE the supposed 'facts'

It is made of Lead...how does one 'Carbon date' lead?

Lead was a favourite metal of the Roman Empire...(also "lead" to the mental health issues surrounding the use of the heavy metal)

How do we know it is NOT a fake. It was "found" via a worker on some archaeological dig in bumfuck nowhere who "kept it safe" all these years as a "family heirloom"

If I can remember correctly, lead was one of the top most used metals that the Romans had. They obviously knew nothing about it's effects on the human brain. Lead was even found in their water supply, they believe this caused numerous mental health problems...(lead poisoning). Maybe that's what caused the fall of the empire, everyone went stupid. Tongue
Also it would explain how Christianity got in. When people go dumb, they go to religion. Big Grin

Back then it was a common belief that the heart was the centre of thought and not the brain, the Romans had slaves and criminals tied down to a hard table and cut their chests wide open while they were still alive. This was so they could see the human organs functioning and learn more about them. They discovered that actually it was the brain and not the heart that was the centre of thought. Of course the Christians back then held the belief that the heart was centre of thought and when that belief was contradicted, they went and burnt down a Roman library containing the newly gained knowledge. 200 years of knowledge was destroyed, typical religious behaviour. Of course they eventually had no choice but to alter their beliefs and accept the facts. They'd never admit to it though. Tongue

But, I agree that the artifact IS very interesting.

And when it has been fully examined it can be claimed by Jordan (for all the good it is going to do them)

Its a bit more than that. It is a mystery/doomsday cult.

I see lots of assumptions in this article. One is the cross in front of a tomb. the cross goes back much farther than Christianity. A tomb is a tomb. Assuming it is Jesus' tomb is another matter. It may be the tomb of Moses...or David. why not assume the tomb is theirs as well since we are assuming things.

It would be interesting to see how this pans out. The codices are quite beatiful, well made, and I tend to agree with the last paragraph suggesting this was made for personal use instead of liturgical, but I am no expert on this subject. Perhaps there was a shortage of materials in the day it was created, so priests had to "make do" with what they could get.

Great post tack..thumbs up for you.

Here is a list of what you are discussing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_art..._the_Bible

It appears that most artifacts in the time period (first century), are difficult to differentiate between Judaism or Christian. The book of Revelations was supposedly written in the late 1st century. These relects are usually quoted as "posssible reference to (such and such)". not very specific. Too much assumption.

Romans was also consuming lead. Lead was added to food for flavor.
I do not think it is necessary to believe that the same God who has given us our senses, reason, and intelligence wished us to abandon their use, giving us by some other means the information that we could gain through them

I think this is an interesting find even though I already believe that Jesus existed.

Btw, the same link was posted earlier in this thread. So I think they should be merged and maybe also move the topic to this section. (Sorry tack, I had to). Big Grin

Missed that bit. The Romans were unknowingly killing themselves. A little ironic, those at the top and who knew the most were dying through lack of knowledge. Just because it tastes good, doesn't mean it won't kill you. Kinda like religion, full of lovely promises of life after death, a belief that satisfies but those who believe are unknowingly committing intellectual suicide. Unknowingly deluded.
Knowledge is power and understanding, without it, your no smarter than sheep. Eat it because it takes good, believe it because it sounds good. That is how a fool thinks.
