Job

RE: Job
Guy wants to tell us about demons, but doesn't want to say he'd sign off on an assault in progress. Think we've found another believer that lacks a faith even as big as a mustard seed.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I want to hear the spin.

God was trying to call you back to His love by trying to kill you?

My 6 y/o Nephew was born with a gene deletion that killed him from cancer at age 6.  I wonder what lesson that supposed to teach.

I am sorry to hear about your nephew.  My cousin's grandson has been back at UofI hospitals for nearly three weeks now.  Kid is barely over a year old and has already been fighting cancer for months.  Last update I got, things didn't sound good.

RE: Job
The bible does not say that demons or the devil cause the evil of the world. It is very clear in the Jewish bible (the one Jesus would know) that God does these things.

What a crock.

I am one of those fools who believes not only in demons but also in miracles. No I don't think that you should refuse to go to a medical professional, but I don't see how praying to an imaginary sky daddy for healing could possibly hurt anything.

Have you ever read The Case for Miracles by Lee Strobel?

Sorry to hear about the boy.  Events like that blow away the idea that bad happens for a reason, or that any deity does miracles on account of prayer.

And, about the OP - God explicitly states that Job did nothing wrong to deserve his suffering, and was correct to discard his friend's "wisdom".  Instead it points out that God is all powerful, and does the good and the bad, and that's just the way it is.  Apparently Job's suffering and forbearance brought glory to God.  Well, halle-fucking-lujah.

Your website provides examples of doctors ignoring medical science, which is a bad thing.

RE: Job
Have you? See, here's the kicker. You can't possibly have a problem with evil or suffering coming from your god. No caveats, no mealy mouthed explanations about testing and good. Just straight and pure - when the davidic warlord fighting for the master race returns and crushes it's enemies in a mighty battle.

I've read two of those "Case" books.  Weak arguments, and a disingenuous claim to be looking at these things like a journalist.

It is impossible to disprove all possibility of miracles, but I would argue that if miracles were real, there would be far more "evidence" than is claimed in a Christian feel-good book series.

There is also the matter of the biblical claims - that faith like a mustard seed could move mountains.  I don't believe that was metaphorical.  When two people of faith agree on something, God is supposed to do it.  That doesn't happen.  God is supposed to give good gifts to those who love him.  Why do Christians get cancer at the same rate as non-Christians?

If one wants to claim that God does miracles, one first has to come up with a hypothesis for the preconditions for miracles.  Then, one has to do scientific studies to determine if miracles happen under those conditions.  Presto - you've then proved magic (though, haven't actually proved God yet).  Come back to me when we can get independent labs to verify miracles.
